SUMMARY - PG2008: Aberdeen
Team South wasted little time in dispatching a disappointing Team North with a
day to spare, in turn retaining the Sally Gunnell Memorial Trophy a mere eight
months after claiming the inaugural Project Golf title in Edinburgh 2007. With
the competition moving to Aberdeen for 2008, the 4-day battle was billed to be
a close one, but despite being on home turf and being the in-form and practised
side, Team North were put to sword convincingly and were left to wonder what to
do to usurp the rampant Southeners, with the final score 9-4 in favour of their
superior counterparts.
Nevertheless, the highly-anticipated event provided some entertaining contests,
and it wasn't all plain-sailing for Team South (well, for the sake of this report
it wasn't).
Hopes were raised in the Team North camp with some promising displays in the warm-up
practice rounds with Mutch and MacLachlan running out 4&2 winners against
Donald and Gibson on Hazlehead 2.
On the eve of the tournament, Watt claimed the Green Jacket in the Par Three Competition
at Aspire with a 6 over 33 back-dropped by some gorgeous evening sunshine, and
murmurs of an upset were growing amid news of the delayed arrival of Martin “69”
Booth and the lack of contact with Sandy “The Butcher” McGregor.

So it was to the fairways of Swailend and Hawkshill that the teams marched, as
Newmachar Golf Club was the setting for Day 1.
